Junior Caretaker's Day 2022

The Museum staff got their hands dirty for Junior Caretaker’s Day at the start of 2022.

We set-out to teach kids about our local environment and how to care for plants in a hands-on environment. After learning about Penrith’s biodiversity, the kids picked out their favourite natives and learnt how to plant and care for them. These will stay at the Museum grounds outside the children’s playground for them to visit at any time. The children each selected and potted a plant to take home with them to put their newfound skills to the test.

We’re lucky enough to have extensive Museum grounds in the middle of Penrith where development is happening all around us. Our hope was to get kids back in touch with nature, and to encourage environmental awareness and stewardship amongst the younger generations. All in all, the day was a great success and we had a tonne of fun. We look forward to welcoming the kids back to the Museum to tend to the garden.

The Museum thanks the Jane Goodall Institute and Roots and Shoots for their support of this program.
